Wrong behavior with multi-intensity fixture

I installed 1.9.1.9.0.30 last Friday night. I have been using the multi channel fixtures for a couple months, and never saw a problem, until today on set.

At first I thought I was pushing the wrong encoders or buttons, but this problem happened almost every time I tried to set levels with multiple fixtures at the same time, so the last time I did all the key strokes slowly and cautiously.

I hope I'm not 'jumping the gun here, and it is operator error, but I'm in production shooting so I cannot test it out now.

So I'm running 1.9.1., and so far, every time I change the intensities of my multi-intensity fixtures(Luma panels & 6 light coops) at some point when pressing the encoder(this last time for Intensity #3) to go to Minimum, it grabs and zeros the whole fixture.  All 6, or 12 intensities, and the virtual master. First night scene of the season, meaning I have usually had all of these fixtures @ full, but still, I never saw this prior to 1.9.1. I think it is only when I select a group of, or multiple fixtures. My solution has been to do each channel individually, were it seems to function correctly.

Sometimes multiple fixtures seem to work properly, but not always.

  • I got an email:

"...we were able to reproduce your issue.

The problem occurs if you change parameter categories or category pages with an un-terminated command line.  In your case, if select a channel or group of channels, press [Custom] to change pages to display a different set of parameters; Intensity gets posted to the command line, so that when you hold down the encoder and select Min for a specific parameter, the Min command is being executed for all of parameters in the Intensity category instead of only the selected parameter.

The work around is to terminate your command line after selecting your group of channels if you want to change parameter categories or category pages.

We have written up this defect and it is scheduled to be fixed in 1.9.5."

Unfortunately, that wasn't the problem. I terminate the command line and use just one channel and it still happens. I did testing and it seems to be occuring when I (use a Luma panel w/ 14 Intens) press 'custom' to go from the last page of Intens - 12, 13, 14, and go back to Intense 1, etc.

Has this been happening on other Ions?

My current work around it to use Moving Light  controls in my CIA, as I'm going 'fishing on the day' for select channels, not just a 1 globe, 2 globe(palette) scenario.

    Any thoughts?

  • Hmm...

I guess I'm alone on this.

    Gern,

I have reproduced what I believe you are seeing.  The likely problem is that the command line becomes unterminated if you page quickly (triggering what would be a double click) and it puts the parameter category back on the command line which is then again unterminated...then you apply a parameter command and it applies to all the parameters in that category.

This is a known problem and we are looking at ways of remedying it in 1.9.5.  We have had a couple of other reports of people having problems with this behavior.

My only suggestion at the moment is to more slowly page through the different pages of the intensity parameter category and to double check to make sure the command line is terminated before executing the parameter command.

I'm very sorry for the delay in response to this and I hope that you will find our solution to this problem satisfactory when 1.9.5 is released. If you have other concerns about this or you think we there is a problem beyond what I have described, please don't hesitate to comment.

This issue has existed in our database for a few months and has now been bumped up in priority...

It should be fixed in 1.9.5.

  • I have been having a similar problem.  Mine is with Mac 575 Krypton units and the Color pages/Encoders.

I sometimes hold the encoder for Color and press next and all the color encoders change to something else.  I than have to go thru each color encoder and set it back to home.

I will try to page slowly and see if that helps.  Also, I will terminate the command line and see if that does anything.  Thanks
