I have a question to the ETC team, and that is is there any plans for ETC to make the new midi and I/O gateways work with Cobalt?
As a LD and programmer I want to grow and don't want the gear to be my limit. But when I now want to grow in the direction of show control, MIDI and so ETC removed the Cobalt compatible gear and made the new one EOS only.
This on the other hand pushes me away from cobalt quicker, but that's maybe the plan? all you loose is a few 100€ for some gateways when there is no new desks to sell? Hoping we go for EOS?
My understanding is that support is slated for future release. I have had success using the response MIDI gateway via USB on Win7 Hardware (Cobalt 8+ software) in limited testing, the ethernet however does not work. I have not played with the response I/O gateway, but I would suspect it is not compatible at this time.
yea, got the same answer from another person.
Just that what is future release? they told us "about 5 years" that cobalt software will be developed after the "death" of the Cobalt line. that's now ~4 years. in another year I won't spend money on a Midi or I/O gateway for ETC systems. it will be to close to my swap to a new system (Sorry, EOS don't do it for me). Making the implement of the new funktions just in the end of a dying systems life feels like a waist of time.
Hello Johannes -
We are working on feature releases for Cobalt for the next few years. We do not plan to support the new USB MIDI devices in Cobalt.
ok. that's so sad. (The midi part) Not even over network?!
So the only way for us to use midi on the network (With backups or long distances) is to get the discontinued, real expensive Net3 ShowControl Gateway?! :-(
But thanks for all the good things you do with the Cobalt system!
