Element Win xp or 7?

new = win7 = 2 network ports, 2 DVI, 1 DisplayPort
old = winXP = 1 network port, 2 DVI, 1 VGA

as far as i know there is no "in between version", so it's either one or the other.

Thank you much. I'm surprised the most recent Element the church purchased is XP. It has only 1 network port but all the other new stuff. I wonder when ETC stopped installing XP or selling XP consoles.

If you want to check you can actually get to windows reasonably easily by going into the shell settings and then press the folder icon button next to the show archive path, you should end up in windows explorer and then it will be obvious if you are windows XP or 7. Obviously don't mess with anything once you are there, although that's an easier way of tidying up a mess of old show files and folders etc than through the console browse.

You don’t need to get into Windows. If your Element only has 1x Network Port, it is XP.

Humm. OK. I'm surprised my church recent purchase was an XP model with the new usb and monitor ports. So when they get upgraded the chassis has to be modified to accommodate the second port?

There should not be any Elements that have the single network port and also a display port for the monitor.
Perhaps you could take a photo of the back of the board and we can help you determine?

Ok so finally got back to the console in question and yes it does have the two ports. Didn't see cuz it had the black blank plug in it. My bad.
However still wondering, do they have to modify the chassis's on the Elements and ION's to accommodate the new stuff? My church has two Elements that definitely need upgrade especially since one is Win7 now and I am waiting to get price for my old ION to decide to switch to XE or not.

I sent my Ion in for a hardware upgrade. It came back with the same case, but a different (internal) vent to accomodate the positioning of the CPU fan on the new motherboard. The HDD and HDD mount are gone. Other than that, there were no changes to the case.

well, the backpane should also be new... ;)

Thanks for this info. I think my question has been misinterpreted and you sort of answered it. My church has two XP Elements and I have an XP ION so if Windows 7 has two network ports and the monitors are different then I would think the back panel would have to change. I am guessing it is a separate piece from the actual chassis and they don't have to do knock out modifications to the case.
The Elements definitely have to be done but I don't know if my ION is worth it or not. I can't seem to get an answer as to the cost factor so I can make that call. Still waiting to hear from my rep. who is still waiting to hear from ETC.

Hey everyone thanks bunches for responding. Does anyone out there have any idea the approx. cost for an older style additional cost part/serial number console upgrade. I'm not getting anything back from my dealer as he isn't getting anything from his source and I want to make a decision on XE or upgrade soon because if XE decision I want to sign up for the Hollywood site training sessions, which can be limited.

It's roughly in the $2500 range, I believe--depends on exactly which variety of old one you have

Mine cost $1,256.51 with tax, plus I had to pay for the shipping to Wisconsin.

Go ahead and sign up for the training. It will be very useful to you regardless of which console you use.

Hey thanks John. Yeah mine is in the category where there is no warranty except extra cost so probably the highest conversion.
Regarding the class. I really only wanted to do it if it steers the users better understanding on the XE layout as I have been for the ION in the past. But i'm sure it also helps with the new version software as well since there have been some significant changes.
