[Help] Merging Only Time Parameters

I noticed this a while ago, but forgot to post on it. I'm not sure if it's operator error, or something else. Either way it would help if someone could check this and report back.

I am unable to merge or update only time parameters into existing cues via the programmer only. If I use the existing cue editor in "Edit" mode, then I am able to update time changes.

Here is a reproduction...

1. Patch a test show with 10 movers

2. Grab all 10 and set I,P,C and B in the programmer and record to 1/1

3. In the programmer only... change only the Fade and Delay times to something else and try to merge to 1/1.

4. Clear the programmer and then check the timing for 1/1. The time values did not change.

5. Try the same process with the Update function and it won't update either.

6. Now... Clear the programmer and "View Cue" 1/1. Enter edit mode in the Cue Editor. Select 1 thru 10... and change the time values via the syntax or by manually editing the fields in the editor. Now exit the edit mode of the cue editor and allow it to update.

7. Check the cue contents and you will see that the time values have been updated succsesfully.

I have noticed that the only way to change time in an existing Cue is to update via the cue editor or just record the entire cue over the previous cue.

Could someone kindly check this and let me know if I might be doing something wrong?

Thanks

JB
  • Jeff, what part doesn't work?
I'm not sure if this is any solution to what you are looking for..but an example

You have a cue 1 recorded with different times for example a Desk channel 1 with time 3s
Cue 1 Copy Enter brings it to programmer with the times.
Adjust timing like Desk channel 1 Time 6 Enter
Merge it back to cue 1 using proper masking (Intensity and Time selected in this case)
or use Update and remember to select Time and be on a correct cue.

But trying this a bit more I realized there's also little problem. After Merge or Update you values become inactive, which causes a situation where you cannot enter time values using command like.

So you have to copy the cue again or suck or touch parameters to make them active.

    I hope this helps...
  • Fantastic!!!

    Thanks Sami....

I was trying to merge timing changes with just the merge function and no masking assuming the console would recognize a timing change as a touched parameter and update or merge the changed value without having to force the update with a mask selection...

But now I realise that to get the programmer to update or merge a timing cue into an existing cue YOU MUST FORCE THE UPDATE BY MASKING NOT ONLY "TIME", BUT ALSO THE PARAMETER OF THE TIME VALUE YOU WANT TO UPDATE.

So it does work and I don't have to enter the cue editor everytime I want to only change timing of an existing Cue.

I did however find a few strange things that happen..

    1. when using "Suck" to pull values into the programmer, you will only pull in the default timing values, not the actual timing values of the live parameters.

    2. Some of the timing values that are updated don't show the new updated values on screen until the Cue is reloaded.

    Thanks Sami!!!

  • Nice that you got it.

You are right about Suck, but what I meant is just for making the values active again.
You have them already in the programmer.
The idea of using suck or touch is when you have merged or updated and you decide to adjust the timing via command line for the same values that are in the programmer.

After Merge or Update the values become inactive and the timing cannot be changed using command line.

But you may have noticed copying to programmer is quite powerful. You can have masks when you Copy to programmer using Cue # Copy Enter.
You can copy by fixture and parameter.
