I have been given a MAC running HogPC 3.1.0 on Windows 8.1 on VMware Fusion and the showflies will not uncompress when opened. This seems like a VMware issue does anyone know of a fix?
You should tell the person who gave you the MAC, that no version of of Hog PC is tested on MAC running any of the version of windows thru Bootcamp, VMware, Parallels, etc. Regardless of these, Hog PC is not OFFICIALLY supported on a MAC. While it's not officially supported, I do know people use it in the wild, but they will have to offer suggestions.
I completely understand. However it works perfectly well through Parallel's on a MAC so I assume there is a tweek to the VMware interface that would get me through my immediate situation.
Internally since this isn't tested, it would be difficult know what direction to point you in. In theory, since it is Windows, there should be no different than launching the show file in Hog on a PC. Hopefully anyone who uses VMware can offer something here. I hope you get it going!
If you need to run it on a Mac, do your self a favor and run it through boot camp. That way you are fully utilizing the computer's processing power and not crippling yourself running TWO operating systems PLUS Hog PC at the same time.
In my opinion, Parallels and VMware are great if you need to open programs that aren't huge computing hogs, or to quickly reference something. But expecting two operating systems running at the same time and sharing the same ports with different drivers and fighting over priority for them is asking for trouble in a show scenario.
That said, I use Bootcamp with a windows 7 install and HogPC4 all the time with no problems.
I too am a bootcamp person running Windows 7. I had WAY too many issues with Parallels and VM Ware to even begin to consider using it in a live situation. If I just need to look up something…maybe, but it's still much less of a headache to boot into Windows on bootcamp and know it's going to work properly.
