BACKUP COMPATIBILITY WH3 & WH4 PC

Hello everyone I need your help,is possible to use a desktop with the hog 4 pc with a hog 4 super widget as a backup running at same time with a wh3 desk with dp 8000 version 3.2.6? Thanks in advance
  • Hog 3 and Hog 4 are incompatible and cannot be on the same network.
Run Hog3PC instead and connect it to the same DP as the console and you can have a full backup, you don't need to use the widget or involve Hog 4 at all.
  • Thanks Leggy, what we need its a full backup system in case that the wh3 and dp 8000 fails, the best option it will be
whole hog 3 pc with a super widget and a a/b switch?

  • And what happens if the a/b switch fails?
  • If you want 100% redundancy, use 2 x DP8000.
Run Hog3PC as a server with the same net number as the console.
Connect console, PC and both DP's via an ethernet switch to create a Hognet network.
    Clone DP1 patch onto DP2.
Put outputs of both DP's through an a/b switch.
PC will track your console and maintain output in case of console failure.
In case of DP failure (which is highly unikely, I don't think I've ever lost a DP mid show) switch to DP2.
  • And even this topology doesn't give you 100% redundancy! You habe one a/b switch and presumably one network switch (if you don't use spanning tree). I guess it's more likely that the cheap consumer switch, I often see in our industry, will fail, than you will totally loose your console and DP.
  • True, but are you pushing the odds massively in your favour.
A decent network switch is extremely reliable, and an a/b switch is a very simple piece of hardware with very little that can go wrong.
It's about as safe as you're going to get.
  • Hello everybody,I just want to say thanks to all of you for your advices,we go for the Hog 4 superwidget,Manythanks
