Backplane com error

Sensor ESR 36 with CEM+ running 3.0.0

'Backplane com error' for several months.

Recently, no response from control after 4-8hrs after start up.

Soft reset  - no fix.

Power off/on - fix (for 4-8hrs)

Pulled CEM module out and re-fitted - no fix.

Backplane chip replace?

Thanks,

Julie

  • No control after a few hours sounds like it overheated and shut down. Was it reporting any other errors?

Make sure the fan is running well, the room is sufficiently ventilated or air conditioned to keep the ambient within limits, the rack properly sealed, and the module heatsinks and door filter clean.
    - The recent warmer weather(!) may have exposed inadequate cooling or a rack that wasn't originally sealed properly.

CEM+ v3.0.0 did not respect the always-on fan setting that is recommended for RCD-equipped racks, so if it has RCDs upgrade the group to the latest firmware and ensure the fan is Always On.

Backplane Com Error means that the CEM+ can't communicate with the backplane chip, and is either a faulty/improperly inserted backplane chip, faulty backplane or faulty CEM+.

Pushing on the backplane chip to fully seat it may correct that error.
If it doesn't, then you can swap over CEM+ if there is more than one rack in the group, or replace the backplane chip to narrow down the fault.

This chip is only for backing up the configuration (in case you need to replace the CEM+) so the rack will continue to dim absolutely fine with this error.

  • Hi Richard,

Thanks for your reply.  No other errors are viewable.

It is an RCD equipped rack so shall update the firmware and check FAN settings to ALWAYS ON.

New backplane on route to us - will visit site end of next week and work through the above suggestions.

    Many Thanks,

    Julie
