Net3 sACN traffic. addresses vs universes

Hello all.

Question in regards to sACN traffic.  I am planning an install that we are going to be using all sACN DMX nodes for all outputs vs DMX Nodes and Optosplitters.  I am thinking about making every output port it's own universe vs sharing since it seems like I have the entire world available out there.  Question is, will the overall network traffic be the same if I am broadcasting x addresses on say 24 universes vs the same x addresses over 48 universes?

Does expanding out to higher universes have the possibility of negatively effecting traffic and latency.

Thanks

  • Each universe is a full packet of data so if you send 48 universes then you will be effectively doubling the amount of bandwidth.

Having said that sACN is very efficient with bandwidth so that shouldn't cause you any problems. Data only increases to 22ms when changes are occurring on a particular universe and drop lowers when they're not.
