lost ION offline in 1.9.8

That is correct. It is the same software offline for Eos and Ion so just select Eos and it will work as it should.

And the why part.... Eos, Gio and Ion have exactly the same feature set.  They differ in physicality and output capacity only.   The shell was starting to get a bit crowded with the introduction of Gio.  To that end, we put all three products under the tile "Eos family."  Element is kept separate as it has a reduced feature set.  The offline software is now a blend of the Eos virtual facepanel and the SKs that you would see using an Ion.  That way Ion users can easily find softkeys where they are used to them.
