MSC2 eDMX pass-thru

Hello colleagues,

We need to implement quite complex scenarios of MSC2 use:

There is a standart lighting console and several MSCs.

  • In standalone mode MSC plays show among 2 dmx universes and controlled with dry contacts and UDP packets
  • In "Live" mode DMX signal passed through from console to fixtures.

According to manual it's possible to organize pass-through with MSC2 and two IP addresses can be assigned to one MSC2 Ethernet port. I would like to know if it's possible to receive UDP command packets to play cuelist in standalone mode and receive ArtNet message from console in Live mode? And how to implement this?

  • This is all possible but for the DMX Pass through to work you will need a trigger to enable and disable it.

This could be a UDP or Contact Closure that switches it on and off.

In the trigger setup you can say if you want specific controllers to enable/disable pass through on the network or all of them so it wont matter how many controllers you have online.

For the second IP address this is only for outputting over the network not for control coming in.

You will need to make sure that any devices sending to the controller is within the same IP range.

  • Thank you, Tom

If I understood correct it should be configured like this to trigger DMX pass-through with UDP message received and ArtNet on the same hardware DMX port.

Afaik, it's not possible to stack action, so we need same trigger to activate pass-through on second DMX port (MSC2)?

There are few things I would like to ask also:

Is it possible to use button station (BPC) which share same network in this setup?

There is also a RS-485 input which can be configured as DMX input on MSC2. Is it possible to activate pass-through from this port?

    Thank you!

  • It is totally possible to stack commands up on the same trigger just click the new action button again and it will add another action.

If you do want to use 2 different triggers you will need to un-tick the Absorbed Option.

This is because when something happens the controller starts at the top of the list and works down. When it finds a match with the Absorbed enabled then it stops.

Without it enabled it will carry on. This is useful when you have the same trigger for something but a different condition to each trigger.

Yes BPS stations should live on the same network, there are limits to how many you can have per controller, these are detailed in the help file if you search for limits.

Yes its possible to use this to trigger the DMX pass through but it cannot be passed through itself. Only sACN or Artnet can be outputted on the local ports.
