Hi Everyone!
I am designing an interactive light installation under a bridge...
Let's assume a simple configuration of 16 overhead spotlights arranged in a 4 x 4 square grid. If someone walks under a specific light it should turn on.
Considering that I'd need 16 sensors, one for each light, I am out of luck with the 8 analog/digital inputs. I assume I'd need to utilize the RS232/485 port.
Any hints how to get this whole thing started hardware and software wise?
Thank you for your help in advance!
Erwin
You can keep adding inputs. Get one of these and with the onboard inputs you'll have 16.

You could expand the I/O using a RIO.
For specs of what each Controller will support from Mosaic Designer Help files:
So the smallest controller will support up to 16 devices. So 16 @ RIO 8/0 devices = 128 Inputs
Thank you for all the very helpful replies and pointing me to the MRIO 8/0.
Any recommendations about proximity sensors or similar?
Not knowing the specifics of your project I can only point you in the direction of where I would start looking. https://www.automationdirect.com/adc/shopping/catalog/sensors_-z-_encoders
Thanks, John!
The preliminary sensor setup is very simple:
16 sensors mounted on a 19ft ceiling in a 4 x 4 grid spaced 2ft apart (see sketch)
