Unison Paradigm Touchscreen

Hello.

Is it possible to set up a Unison Paradigm Touchscreen using Unison Light Manager 1.9.2?

We have a Unison system since 2008, but the LCD station is damaged, and we are going to add a Unison Paradigm.

Thanks very mutch in advance!

  • Rafael,

Unison Paradigm is a completely different control system than the Legacy Unison product is. It is not possible to configure a or use a Unison Paradigm touchscreen with the legacy system.  This would require a Unison Paradigm Control system and LightDesigner/ ControlDesigner software.

If you have the older Unison system, you will need to replace your touchscreen with the same type.

    Thanks

  • Perhaps this could be a new product.

Something like the Mosaic Tessera but runs off Legacy Unison. It could make a nice retrofit for those older systems that will still be chugging along for many years.

  • Bryan,

We were trying to buy an LCD station, but they informed us that it was discontinued.

By other way, I have read in some forum that a computer can be configured as controller of the system. Is it possible to do that with the Unison Legacy system?

    Thanks!

  • Rafael,

the touchscreens for your system are still available as replacements and additions to the system. You can contact your local ETC dealer for pricing. There are some options to run Light Manager on a computer to control you existing system. Information for this is also available from your local dealer

Contact a dealer, or Litetrol Service (an authorized ETC Service company), in Hicksville, NY - Steve Short.  I'm pretty certain Steve would have either new or used replacement legacy LCD screens.  800 548 3876

Which begs the the question as to what exactly are you trying to do ?.  Obviously add a station, but which type ?, portable or fixed/wall ?.  It's possible to round up the parts for either, but some additional work would be needed to the system to make that happen, box and wiring install and connection to the main Unison processor, as well as a change to the configuration file using ETC's Light Manager software.  So to make this happen is going to require some form of service call and installation costs.

Usually, ETC charges/charged for the LM software and use to require  that you be a trained Light Manager user, not sure if that's still the case and it was usually to protect the user from making un-skilled changes to the file that can totally muck up a system.  A dealer or service facility (such as Litetrol) can also make these changes to the Light Manager file as well.

Light Manager, is/was a Windows only based program used to create the configuration file used by the Unison system.  It can connect directly to the Unison processor, either via a serial connection (if you have a computer that HAS one !), or via the Net 2 connection if the Unison processor is a CMEi model that connected via Net2, as opposed to direct DMX to the dimmers.  In any event, the LM software has little use (IMO) in day to day operations of the Unison processor and was only used in the original configuration and to make required changes after install.  In general and no matter which method of connecting a computer, typical users (in my experience) would make the changes to the configuration file in LM, then save the file to a 3.5" floppy and simply load the new config to the Unison processor, rather then via a direct connection.  You ended up needing the file on a floppy anyway, as that's the backup storage media used.

So I read what Bryan posted and was subsequently puzzled as to why or when a stand-alone PC was used to control or access the Unison ER4's on a daily basis ? and under what circumstances was this an option ?.
