LCD display trouble

I know this is a common problem with the congo consoles (both senior and JR), but my question is if there is an easy way for us advanced users and service tech´s (and every one else of course) to fix the displays flickering and "banding" ( you know when there´s lines all over the LCD´s).

I´ve heard that the connections to the displays are weak and that firmware upgrades does not fix the issue.

Any ideas?

Also please fix the trouble with the Offline Editor for Mac Montain Lion soon please, very anoying :)

  • These LCDs are complete modules, so aren't really possible to service (much like you can't repair the screen in a laptop).

Flickering LCD backlight would usually indicate failing backlight, and you'll need to replace the LCD module. (The backlight is built-in to the module)

In the case of horizontal or vertical lines that are either stuck on or off, if you take a look at the back of the LCD module you'll either see a few chips sealed under black 'blobs' or ones with legs.

If you have one where the ICs have legs, then you can try carefully reflowing the solder on the legs. We have in the past seen a few semi-dry joints that can cause 'stuck' horizontal or vertical lines.

The ones sealed under 'blobs' are not serviceable at all.

On Congo jr and the Wings the LCDs are plug-in modules, so relatively simple to replace.
Congo Senior is more difficult as the LCD modules are soldered in place using PCB pins for a thinner facepanel, so you'll need someone very good at soldering and desoldering to replace them.
