Florian is probably right, there are some fixtures out there that cannot cope with the existence of RDM.

ETC consoles and DMX/RDM Gateways have settings that let you turn RDM on/off individually per physical DMX port, so you can have it on for the fixtures that have RDM features, and off for the ones that can't cope:

For the rear DMX ports, RDM Enable/Disable is in System Settings > Output > Local DMX Output.

For Net3 DMX/RDM Gateways, RDM Enabled/Disable is at the Gateway front panel (push the button to see the options) or remotely using Gateway Configuration Editor.
