Default settings on the Jr

Logon 

Neither Congo Jr nor Congo have any form of password protection at all - they are not PCs, even though they share some features with PCs.

The software is designed for the professional and amateur production environment, where we presume that the only people who have access to the console are those who are trusted to operate it properly, hence the lack of password protection.

However, if you take a backup of the important showfiles onto USB stick, then anything they do from within the Congo software can be undone and returned to the show state very quickly by reloading the show from your backup.

The username (currently) only affects the layout of Direct Selects, so if two or more operators are running the same show they can lay the console out the way they like. To change the login, simply type a new username into the box.

In most situations, you will only ever log on as "Default" - in a school, this is doubly important as you won't want things to 'vanish' if a student logs on using a different name!

We recommend that the lighting control ethernet network be physically separate from every other network on campus.

If your dimmers are ETCNet2, and/or you are using ETCNet2 Nodes or Net3/ACN Gateways, then this should have already been arranged for you - there will be a dedicated lighting network, you plug Jr into it, turn on ETCNet2 and everything works!

If you are only using DMX directly from the back of the console and are not running a backup console or FTP server, then don't plug anything into the network port at all - you don't need it.

Do not ever allow the console to see the Internet - it has no firewalls or anti-virus software, because physical security is infinitely better than either and doesn't take memory and processing power away from the primary job of lighting your shows.

There are also some things Congo can be asked to do that would freak out most network admins - for example the ArtNet protocol is rather harsh to shared networks!

There are some situations where the lighting network must use the same physical hardware as another campus network, but these are very rare and are acheived through careful management of the network in consultation with ETC. It is therefore almost certain that Congo Jr should not be connected to the school network at all.
