Congo on a Outdoor Concert Feedback.

H all,

Ive just come back from doing a outdoor concert in stoke with the congo and 40 movers... This looked ace due to the Congo Thanks ETC.

The new effects engine is awesome (great work) and made busking much easier.

A few thing I noticed:

  • When doing a effect with 4 colour and position pallets the desk seem took ages to edit once I pressed 8 effect the U2 to change this !!!!!! It took so long around 40 mins (couldn't do a thing on the desk) I had to switch the desk off by pressing the power button on the back. I know I shouldn't but this was the only way I could power down :( On return the desk went back to my last saved data which by my mistake was a few hours ago, so I had to re do all my other pallets again. Note to self SAVE SAVE SAVE !!!!!
  • I had my pars on page 1 master subs 1-6 when I flashed these some times the sub locked up and I couldn't clear that sub and couldn't even wheel the channel number down, the only way to clear the channels was to clear the sub and re load it after around 5 mins.....If I did this before that time the info was still locked up at the same level.
  • Is there any way to make the LCD screen's brighter in the day, very difficult to read my info before dusk. Thank god for white LX and a sharpie
  • Is there a problem you know of with Robe 1200 spots in Mode 3 as the weren't doing the right thing with the Robe template and my own I made up from the website. This template worked fine on other desk's. Put these into mode 1 and all fine.

Just a few pointers to see if you can help me. Apart from these the desk was ace and it just shows that its not just a theatre sack desk as I normally use it it can do rock concert as well :)

Thanking you ETC team

Carl

  • Hi Carl,

The LCD's can be set to inverse mode in the system settings.  I find this to be easier to read in all lighting situations.  It is supposed to be easier in daylight.  Thankfully, my main programming location is under shade, so I don't have a problem with it.  I do most of my shows on the Congo at an outdoor venue.

I always fine tune my templates.  I was working with Elation Design Spot 575's on a demo this weekend.  I spent an hour fixing the template and getting it to control the light EXACTLY how I wanted to do it.  I spend a lot of time making sure that the templates are set up the way I want for the style of show I am going to do.  Since I am doing most of my shows on the fly, I want the template set up to busk the fixtures easiest.  For example, I set the default position for the gobos to be in the rotation mode but with the rotation stopped.  This way when I want to ease a rotation into a fixture I don't have to worry about what mode the gobos are in.  If I am doing a cued theatre show, I will do more of this with palettes, and I have the time to get it right so the template can be set up differently.

The situation with the PARs is interesting.  I haven't experienced any problems with that.  Sometimes if the master data won't clear, I use the master editor to delete the info, and then reload it.  I add channels, groups, presets, dynamics, palettes, etc to masters on the fly during my show as I want to have something else to throw into the mix.

I second my congratulations to the Congo team.  I liked the Congo with v3 software, but I love the v5 software.

    Take care,

    John

  • I forgot to mention...

I LOVE that I can make adjustments to the fixture template in the desk and that the changes are real time!  Because I am such a ... (okay, I'll admit)... control freak, this makes my life so much easier.

    Thanks!

    John
