NCE, GCE and Net3 Services onto Congo.

sclausen:
I believe if you install NCE or GCE on your console, you will get buttons in the Settings (the system settings available from the startup screen) to launch those programs. Also, Net3 Services may be installed on consoles running v5.0.x software to provide DHCP and time server functions from the console as well.
Both of these functions work well.

If your console is brand-new and arrived with Congo 5 already onboard, it'll have Net3 services and NCE already installed.

If you have updated your console using the Congo 5 update downloaded from our website, you'll need to download NCE and Net3 services separately. We've done this because many sites don't need either of them, and anyone running Offline or Client certainly doesn't need either, so it makes the download smaller for the majority of users.

If you only have one Congo console on the network and you are using ETCNet2 (EDMX) then you don't need Net3 Services at all - just NCE is enough.

To install Net3 Services and/or NCE, you'll need to do the following:

  • Download the relevant installer(s) and unzip the file(s) onto a USB stick - don't change the filenames
  • Boot up the console to the Welcome screen
  • Insert the USB stick into the console
  • Choose "System Settings"
  • Look under "Update", and you'll see a dropdown list of things to install.
  • Choose the installer you wish to use and click "Install"
  • During the installation process you'll be asked two questions:
    • Whether you are installing onto a Console or a Standalone PC, so choose "Console"
    • Whether this particualr console should be a Net3 Server or Client. You can only have one Net3 Server on the network, so choose wisely!

After installation, you'll get a few more options under the "Network" tab of System Settings, including a button for NCE.

You'll need a keyboard and mouse for NCE - on a fullsize Congo the built-in keyboard and trackball are fine, for Congo Jr you can use the keyboard and mouse that shipped with the console.

Once GCE is released, you can do the same with GCE - however, it's highly unlikely that you'll need both NCE and GCE in one facility!
