Express shows to Congo

Hello -

Long time reader - first time poster.

Anyway, I have an Express (now used as a utility consoloe).  None-the-less, Spencer L. long ago showed me a way to bring show information in from the Express to the Congo - now long forgotten and was quite over loaded with new information at the time.

In short, what information.material/software/process is needed and/or used to bring show/patch/file information from any console to the Congo?

Sarah was working on it at ETC, but may have been side - tracked withy more important projects (which is understandable).

Thanks!

  • Hi there -

With regard to Express/Expression/Insight, download the new Expression Off-Line v3.11 at the bottom of this page. Open your Express show in EOL, then convert it to ASCII format. Don't change any of the conversion settings - they are fine the way they are. Take that new .ASC file over to your Congo or Congo jr and you should be good to go.

Congo can read ASCII shows from Express/Expression/Insight, Emphasis, Strand 500 series consoles, and Avab consoles. You can try any ASCII show from any console, however, your mileage may vary with ASCII exports that we haven't seen before. In other words, the ASCII standard is relatively limited so any console manufacturer that exports to ASCII may have to make up formats for specific data types - for example, patch and cues are defined in the standard, effects are not. If there is another manufacturer's ASCII show you would like us to take a look at (to get more data imported) please feel free to send it to us. It can be a lengthy process, though, to ensure that the imported file is being interpreted by Congo correctly.

One should always double-check any show file that's been brought over from another console. Simple shows should be no problem. If you have a lot of special programming (sub bump links, macros, etc.) you may have to do some clean up to get the show ready for opening night.

    I hope this helps!

    Thanks -

    Sarah
