  • Select the channels you want the chase to run across.

    Press Insert + Effect

tick Create Chase from selected channels

    Execute

This will create a new chase in a new effect playback, select it and have it under the level wheel

press and hold the wheel button that's showing chase rate and press Master button for the Master to be a time master

(if the current chase isn't showing or to edit in/out times etc in the Chase Editor, from the softkeys home

    Effect

    Chase

number of effect playback then Effect key

or go to the Chase in the Browser to edit it

  • Thinking about it, it'd be good if you could set the in/out times to be a proportion of step time rather than an absolute time. Then if you're varying the time, say by a time master, the fades would vary too. That'd be cool, don't think you can do that though?

  • In the case of Sequence Chases, all times are scaled (In/Out/Wait) by the Time Master.

In the case of Chase Effects, the timing of the steps is defined by the Tap/Rate* Attribute as a multiplier to the timings set in the Chase Effect Editor.
    - If that also varied by "Sequence step time", it would be impossible to have consistent chase effects running over the top of a sequence of "slow crossfade - fast crossfade...", because when you started the 'slow crossfade' it would slow down, and when you started the 'fast crossfade' it would speed up...
    - It would also make it extremely difficult to have a fast chase that fades up slowly.

If you want a 'speed master' for Chase Effects, you can put that attribute onto a Master (either as the attribute itself, or as a Preset, depending on whether you want to select the particular Effect first, or want it to always be on fader Y).

You can also set the Master or Flash Key to be Tap/Rate*, if you prefer that way of working.

In answer to Raf Wouter's original question:

    • Set non-zero In/Out times for the steps.
      • This applies to both Chase Effects and Sequence Chases
      • Chase Effects default to 'snap on, snap off' when first created, so you'll need to set sensible values for In and Out.
        - Either globally, or on a per step basis.
    • For Sequence Chases, don't use BPM or Tap.
      • Tap sets a BPM, and BPM'd sequence chases are always snapped.

  • "In the case of Sequence Chases, all times are scaled (In/Out/Wait) by the Time Master."

Ah right, didn't know that, haven't used Sequence Chases yet - thanks! Not sure I got the next bit, don't know the system well enough yet, I'll have a play and a think.

    Thanks.
