Network problems

We're running a Congo desk with a Congo Jr as a backup, connected via ethernet to a server.  We've had to swap out one of our desks and the desk we're trying to use instead doesn't seem to want to connect to the network.  We've checked all the settings in System Settings, and they're all the same as the previous desk except for the "Network" section.  On the previous desk the Network Services button was checked and some other parts of this section were activated.  If we try to click on the Network Services button however there's no response and all the Network section is greyed out so we can't seem to get it to do anything.  I presume the reason we're having problems with connecting to the network is because the Network section isn't set up right, but how can we get it to respond so that we can set it up properly? The desk will run ok with DMX, but obviously we can't run the backup if we do it that way...

Thanks

Louise

  • Here's a checklist for Congo Server/Backup use:

    1. Ensure that both Congo consoles are running exactly the same version of Congo.
    2. Exit to System Settings:
      1. Under the "Network" tab:
        1. Ensure that both Congo consoles have suitable IP addresses and are in the same subnet.
          1. The default IP settings are:
Congo Console IP: 10.101.80.101 to 10.101.80.254
Congo jr IP: 10.101.81.101 to 10.101.81.254
            Subnet Mask : 255.255.0.0
            Gateway IP: Same as IP
        2. Ensure the network adapter shows as "Online"
          • If "Offline", check your ethernet connections and reboot the console.
      2. Under the "Protocols" tab:
        1. Ensure that the "Logical Network" option is the same on both consoles.
          • Logical Network defines the 'groups' of consoles that work together as Server/Backup/Clients
        2. Ensure that the required Network Protocols are enabled
      3. Under the "Backup" tab:
        1. Ensure "Auto-transfer play to Backup" is ticked in both consoles.
        2. Select the appropriate Role for each console (Server/Backup/Whichever starts first)
    3. Now start the Server Congo, and load the appropriate play file
    4. Watch the Backup Congo Welcome screen, and wait for the default option to change to "Backup", and the "Client" option to appear.
      • If you chose the Backup role, an asterisk will display until the Server has been found.
    5. Now choose "Backup", and it will start in Backup mode.

If the Client option doesn't appear, then there is a problem on the network preventing proper communication between the consoles - contact your network administrator or ETC Technical Services.

"Network Services" are related to ACN - they aren't necessary for server/backup use unless you're using the ACN protocol.
    - These are installed by the GCE installer if you want to add them.
