What version is your compiuter?

you can't play a V8.2 file on V7.3.1 No lighting console manufacture let you step backwards in versions like that. New versions brings new features and bug fixes that can mess upp your file while going backwards.

As jolsson explained, .CSF files are the show file format for version 8.x files while the .asc (USITT ASCII) file format was used for versions prior to 8.x. If you are going backwards from version 8.x to 7.x, you do indeed need to export as ASCII so the older software can understand your show data. The things that you lose when doing this are your screen layouts and magic sheets as those features changed significantly in version 8.

I work on my computer with cobalt 8.1.1.14. I have some problems with 8.2 (https://community.etcconnect.com/control_consoles/f/cobalt-family/31804/dmx-off-8-2)
