Mac Nomad Pixel Map Motion Files not Reversing

It appears that there is a problem with Mac Nomad Pixel Map Movie files.

Stock Layer file (Lib 0, FIP 112) is a good place to see the problem.

Select Layer file, Loop Forward with a speed.  "Loop Reverse" does nothing.  Also, when you have "Loop Reverse" selected already , and choose a file, it can sometimes simply "play" a still frame causing confusion.

2015 MBP Mojave 6K Nomad 2.8.2

When tested on a Gio @5, the "Loop Reverse" function behaves.

Thanks,

Matt

  • If memory serves correctly, the video engine we use on mac does not support reverse playback. This is likely a property of ETCnomad for mac itself, not the files (although those files do have some weird encodings that make reverse playback interesting anyway). The new video engine in 3.0, replacing QuickTime, isn't planned to support reverse playback either. Reverse playback is something that Quicktime supported natively but is not something that most video formats are built for.

My understanding, from conversations with others on the matter, is that many media server products in general do not support reverse playback.

  • Thanks Mr. Dews for the explanation!

A list of Mac specific deficiencies would be great. I’ll try to accumulate a document of these.

    1) No reverse playback in VMS Pixel Mapping
