Element Eos Expander (EEE) USB Dongle

In my view, the Element is sort of a dead end for a venue to purchase. You either get a more powerful controller than the Smart fade or the new Color Source console, or you get Eos that's been cut down, and doesn't play nice with it's older brothers.

It always made me laugh in the Bobble Head Fred video about Networking, when they show a Technician Spilling Coffee on an Element, and the backup Ion takes control, because that can't happen.

But what do you do when you want your venue to eventually expand, and grow out of the 1024 Addresses, but still use all that Eos Power that you started on Element.

Nowadays, you have to buy an Ion, and either re-purpose your Element somewhere else, or sell it. Since Element can't interface with the other Eos Devices.

But what if it could?

What if there was a USB Dongle, that unlocked the full power of EOS, allowing Element to serve as an EOS Device?

This way, Elements can be sold for their primary purpose, providing a simpler feature set to smaller venues, but with this USB Dongle, your Element can serve as a ready Conventional Programming Desk for your larger systems.

Upgrading and moving up to the more robust systems will be easier than ever.

  • I do have to agree that the Element is a dead end. There isn't much to do with it after it's purchased except get the 500 channel upgrade. What if there was a dongle like suggested and maybe a wing designed for moving lights? The dongle can maybe get you another universe or two and the wing would have encoders for parameters and maybe a motorized joystick for light positioning. Just a thought.
  • And always see on all of the fader wings, "*not compatible with Element consoles." I just feel stuck having a permanent cap on my abilities for larger rigs. I just recently got a huge LED upgrade and both universes are almost completely full. At least a module that can provide 1 more dmx universe would do and limit the device add-ons to be 3 devices, a total of 5 universes! That's a lot of addresses! That's 2,560 addresses! That would get me 85 fixtures that use 30 addresses each. Now, all of these addresses aren't useful if we don't have more channel counts, how about a maximum of 1000 channels? And maybe 3 fader wings? I'm just throwing out massive ideas, but for a lower budget console that's in the EOS family, that is HUGE!
