Eos/Ion Auto Groups/Subs

We have a standard rig which is often recoloured, and as such a large amount of programming for groups and subs has to be redone. I've partly got around this by creating macros which use the Gel and a couple of the Text fields in Patch, along with the query command to reprogram groups and subs. However this of course only works for colours which are included in the macros. It is workable, by just pretending (for programming purposes) that any other colours which are used are ones which we know are recorded in the macros.

So... What would be useful is to be able to reference a sub to a group (or possibly a preset), and be able to auto-populate certain groups (for example Group 41 "Autogroup" "Query" "Gel L202" "Text1 LX3"), thereby simply by updating a few fields in patch, the vast majority of programming for a show can be completed.

  • In 2.4 you'll be able to map Presets/Palettes directly to the faders - which gets you part way to the goal.

There are more tools in 2.5 which should help.

Looking at your above scenario - if you were to make Presets that were variables for your colors - you could make you macros based on those Presets which would help with some of your Gel referencing problems.

For Example - Preset 1 is always the Red Par cans.

Step 1 - Add your red pars to the Preset and fire a macro

Group Preset 1 Record Group 1 Enter

Blind Patch, Group Preset 1 Label "Red"

If you want further refinement by position you could then employ some subtractive macros like :

    Group 101 is LX 1

    Group 102 is LX 2

    Group 103 is LX 3

Group 109 is All FOH light

    Macro :

Group Preset 1 Record Group 1.
    Group 1 - Group 102 thru 109 Record group 1.1
    Group 1 - Group 101 - Group 103 thru group 109 record group 1.2

    Etc Etc.

Now you've got all your Red pars by position.

You can also check out an Auto-Palette tool I built at my website - alienstagecraft.com/forum

I've got a lot of these Auto-build kinda tools - so if you are looking showfile ideas just hit me up through the site.   We can probably cut your programming time down to a few minutes for all the generic stuff.
