Unison/ETCNet2 questions?

I would love a forum to connect with other users of Unison over Net2.

My installation is not textbook, and so the user's manual(s) don't always appear to apply to my situation. Somewhere out there is a user who can tell me why Unison appears to be overriding my HLLF, which my local tech doesn't have an easy answer for either.

  • Hi Anne-

I'm with Fisher Dachs Associates, we designed your dimming system along with ETC. You're right, your installation is anything but textbook Unison and you have a lot of devices on your network which makes things a bit complicated. I'm not sure I quite understand your question,  but if you'd like to send me an email or call to describe the issue further, I'd be happy to investigate. I had a quick chat with one of the programmers at ETC who guesses that you may be describing a priority issue with your EDMX sources.

Also, you should feel free to call ETC's tech service for assistance at any time - they are there to help with issues just like this and in my experience are fantastic at problem solving day or night. Tech Services phone number is 800.688.4116.

    Anne -

If your Unison look is overriding your HLLF look there is most definitely a Net 2 Priority problem somewhere on your network.  Since this is a very complicated Unison configuration I'll have a look and get back to you with some possible solutions.  I think that your Congo Console is residing at Priority 10 and your Unison configuration may have a Zone by Zone priority setting.

Anyways, this should be an easy enough fix.

I'll get back to you this afternoon!

  • Thank you Jon, and Ben, for your responses; I've also had some helpful private emails--

The root of the problem is that--and Ben can back me up on this--I am untrained and ignorant in the ways of Unison and Net2 to the extent that calling tech support is a waste of everybody's time. I barely have the vocabulary to describe my problem; I'm a newbie by anyone's definition. My questions are "I see 6 Unison configuration files in Unison Light Manager: how can I tell which one Unison is currently using, if any?" (Ben?) or: "The 'Load Configuration from Serial Unison Processor' button is grayed out on the copy of ULM in my control room; does this mean I have to configure the system from my dimmer room computer?" (Jon?).  60 seconds of tech support at a time, spaced out across several days, is really what I'm after. For that, better a forum than tech support, who have real-time, ongoing crises to deal with; I do appreciate that you're out there.

It's not you, it's me. Honest.

But we can still be friends, can't we?

Congo IS at priority 10, by the way, Ben, as are all of the Net2 Nodes on the system, barring the one that appears to have just lost its IP & configuration data and set itself to a priority 1. THAT's the kind of thing I do need to call you up about; just lately, over the last three weeks or so, we've had some nodes just up and get lost. My software is probably out of date, I'll see what I can do about that before anything else.
