Anyone have brilliant ways of matching unknown gels to swatch books?

I've been here for 3rd year 2nd school year and have gotten a HUGE pile of gels correctly labeled, filed wrong; not labeled; incorrectly labeled. Weekly a couple of 'us' make a small dent in the pile. but it grows exponentially!

I've got this idea of a swatch book built like a scroll, used like over heads on a roll.

Parents
    1. Pre-sort by colour, size, and texture as best you can before reaching for a swatch book, tossing out any that are in bad shape as you go.
    2. Take each pile and match them with various vendor swatch books by placing them on a white background side-by-side with the swatch book. The texture should help narrow down which vendor swatch book to use.
    3. Label each gel with a grease pencil so you never have to go through this exercise again.
    4. Tie the grease pencil to your cutting table so the next person to cut gel doesn't have any excuse.

    For the High Tech solution: get a color meter ($$$)

    There are apps of course if you have a smartphone.
