Emphasis Backup

Recently one of the vital computer systems in our theatre failed and did not have a backup . This got me wondering that since emphasis lighting boards rely on the emphasis computer, if the computer failed the board would not operate. Im not sure if we have a backup cd for the emphasis computer but if we do, and it was to be installed on an extra computer without a dongle, would it still allow the board to operate?

  • The system should have been supplied with a console operating system boot disk.  This lets you operate the console (facepanel) in stand-alone mode (it IS a console after all), after you install and boot from the OS disk.

Note that if your current Emphasis system connects to the dimmers and any other node devices using Cat5/Net2, you would need a node at the console top accept/receive the console DMX signal..

If you cannot find the OS boot disk, you can download it from the ETC site and transfer the file to a 3.5" floppy.  Express, Expression and Insight are at version 3.1, with Expression/Insight one file, and all Express series another.  They can be found here:

    http://www.etcconnect.com/support.downloads.aspx

I would also get the console Facepanel boot disk as well, if you can't locate locally.  The facepanel boot disks are under the Emphasis section.

It probably wouldn't hurt to learn how and to check this boot process from facepanel to stand-alone console and back.
