Luckily, there are still many options for moving those pesky packets across fiber lines. Here's one:
(2) HP ProCurve 2512 Network Switch
(2) HP ProCurve Gigabit SX Transceiver
The network switches can be picked up for under $500 a piece (new), and the fiber modules can be picked up for about $300 each.
There are more configurations available, but hopefully this gives you the gist.
For more information on these check out the following links:
HP ProCurve 2500 Series
HP ProCurve 2512 (12-Port Switch)
HP ProCurve 2524 (24-Port Switch)
HP ProCurve Fiber Module (SX)
These are rackmount solutions and will work well for both installed and touring applications if treated appropriately.
Similar products are available from companies like Cisco, D-Link, and Netgear.
Hope this helps a little.
