Select Odd and Even make their selection based on the current active selection, taking the selection order into account. They are not selecting odd and even based on user number. This is by design. Would you rather see it select odd or even based on number? Personally, I wouldn't want to lose the current functionality, but I could see adding a preference to govern how these features behave.
