Downloading for Mac

Having recently had to download the latest version of software, I just wanted to let any fellow Mac users know the issues I've had. Basically, I found that If I clicked on the 'Download Clear Install' rather than holding down CTRL and selecting 'Download Link to Disk' in the Software downloads section, my Mac would download the file, and would appear as TAR, withouth the gz append (the icon is a crate). If I selected 'Download Link To Disk' I would get the correct disk image - that the console can read.

I am running OSX Panther (10.3.9), and as you may have gathered also have stuffit expander sitting in my dock.

  • Thanks Tom. This Is an issue I see with other downloads - especially PDF. For example, if I click on View Release notes in the software page, Safari will open Acrobat automatically, and then show me the PDF. Wheras if I hold down CTRL an select 'Download link to Disk', Safari will download the PDF - that I can view at my lesiure.

Having downloaded what I assumed was the correct file the other day - and had no success in getting my 3 to recoginse the file - I applied the solution mentioned and lo and behold got the file I needed.
