Network settings

I need some input on how I should set up my Hog3 network. Here's what I got...

Hog3 Console....DHCP server enabled, IP=172.31.0.1
DP2000 1......DHCP disabled, static IP=172.31.0.2
DP2000 2......DHCP disabled, static IP=172.31.0.4
All of these are connected via a Linksys 10/100 8 port switch (not router)

Then, also connected to the switch is a Linksys WiFi router. DHCP is disabled and static IP address is 172.31.0.9.

Hog3PC on a TabletPC.....WiFi adapter static IP address is 172.31.0.9

I'm looking for suggestions on how to improve the stability. I have recently had issues with the TabletPC's wireless connection running Hog3PC fine for a while, then losing connection and causing Hog3PC to quit.

I'm not sure what my setting should really be. DHCP, no DHCP?

When do you loose connection to the table PC? Is the console on when you loose the connection or off?

Console is always on. I'll use the Tablet all morning. Let it sit a while, go to it, and notice that Hog3PC has closed due to lost connection. I check my WiFi connect, and it says it's Excellent and still connected.

I had the same problem. I've solved it by setting all energy saving settings to always on. Seems like xp put wlan in a kind of sleep mode while you're not using the tablet.

ps

why do you use the desk as dhcp server ?? If your desk crashes you can't boot up again quick and run your show from the tablet pc becasue you won't get an ip-adress. I've made my linksys wrt54g as dhcp server and always have a configured spare one in one of the toolcases.

Frank,

Can you give more detail on your settings? Do you config the router to be a static IP address? I notice that my router in DHCP wants to be a 192.168.?.? but the Hog runs in the 172.31 series. I need help configing my WiFi router and the console, for that matter. My afternoon i lose my connection. It's impossible to talk to Linksys about this, they think I'm tring to connect to the internet.

First you will need to turn off the DHCP server on the console and set the IP address to 192.168.1.2. Set the router to 192.168.1.1. Set the DP 2000's to 192.168.1.3 and 192.168.1.4. Set your Tablet to 192.168.1.5

This should do the trick. Keep in mind that these are all static addresses.

I use the same setup as calvin only i also start the dhcp server of the linksys and let (tablet) pc's join the network using dhcp. I do this because we have multiple pc's joining the network on different days. Using dhcp makes life easierer for the pc users.

Please keep me informed, if you still have problems i can post on our ftp a hog 3 setup show and the linksys config files.

So I guess what's happening is after a while of not using my TabletPC, the connection drops and closes Hog3PC. Unfortunately, the console still shows it online, and when I try to reconnect to the network, I get a message stating that console 2 is already running and I can't log in as another console # 2. I'll have to figure out why my connection keeps dropping on my TabletPC, but tell me, is there is a way to log off a second console from the console?

I am not sure aobut logging other consoles off from the host console, but you could log on as console #3.
