Yes we are aware that this is a common request. However it does require a change to the linux kernel, which we do plan to do upgrade it sometime.
In the mean time you can save to CDs (You can save multiple shows on the same disk because the console will not finalize the CD) or you can use network file sharing to save to a USB drive on a connected laptop.
