So I know because there is no monitor support on the basic Road Hog the touch screen won't work, but has anyone tried the new Road Hog playback wing with one? It would still be as useful (like an older Hog PC mini wing) to have working playbacks.
You can indeed use the Road Hog wings with a regular Road Hog. As Marc-Andre posted, there is an adapter available to add a monitor via USB. This will allow the full capabilities of a Road Hog wing. In addition the Road Hog supports up to eight playback wings, so you can connect any combination of Road Hog, Mini, or full sized Expansion wings.
With a Road Hog of course you only get the use of one additional monitor output, but the playback portions will continue to work with additional wings.
Brooke, I have the IOGear USB to VGA adapter on our RH and it is running a regular ELO touch screen like a charm. You should have no problems with the RH playback wing hooked up to the VGA adapter. I'd suggest getting a good USB 2.0 hub as well. The USB/VGA gadget was the best $80 I've spent for our console.
Is that still a current product? If I remember correctly it was one of the most expensive USB hubs in history. But it was cool looking. Joshua Wood
Edit: I'll be Damned, it is still a current product. I have never seen one in person, Are they really only USB 1.1? Or are they 2.0 now? www.highend.com/products/controllers/usbhub.asp
The USB hub from FPS has not changed since its original design and it is indeed USB 1.1 as stated on the product web page: www.highend.com/products/controllers/usbhub.asp
The price is very high for a USB 1.1 hub.. this is mainly due to the anodized aluminum case. However the main reason for this hub is for the widget rack: www.highend.com/products/controllers/WidgetRack.asp
Although if buying new you are better off with the Super Widget (unless rack mounting is a must).
All of the above are still current products and available through your HES/Barco dealer.
Are there special drivers or installation procedures required to get the usb/vga adapter to work with the Road Hog wing monitor? Awhile ago (around when I originally posted this thread) I purchased an adapter from High End with a wing and console, and they all worked together fine, pretty much out of the box. Yesterday I purchased an identical IOGear usb/vga adapter to set up another Road Hog wing/console combo, and was never able to get the adapter to even display status leds. If I plugged it into a computer, it lit up, but it wouldn't work with either of two Road Hogs. I even went and purchased a power adapter to power the usb/vga adapter, even though it shouldn't need it, but the unit would still do nothing. Any ideas?
You need a fairly recent XPe image that has the USB VGA drivers, I think it's 1.4.0. If you have that it should just work. I try to give the VGA adapter its own dedicated USB port out of the console, and I haven't had the need to use the external power adapter.
IOGear recently changed the hardware inside the USB to VGA adapter without changing the model number. The newer version won't work with the drivers currently installed on the Road Hog image. An image with updated drivers is "coming soon" but I can't give you an exact date.
