Artnet...

Hi All,

I have a headline slots at some festivals in the next few weeks where I will be using a Hog 3...

I am sure this is an RTFM question, but can anyone advise on the best way to get Artnet out?

I know it can be done via DP8000's which we don't have, and I don't think it can be done on DP2000s. Is it a Widget job? Or something else?

Worse come to worse, I can proably output on DMX, and go back into a Luminex, but I kind of assumed there is a way...

As I said, its a Hog 3, not a Road Hog Full Boar, and its a first for me, as we usually run Hog Net with DP's.

You cannot output Art-Net directly from a Hog 3 and a Hog 3 cannot use widgets to output DMX. Only the windows consoles can do this.

In a Hog network, you will always run Hog-Net. Hog-Net runs between network devices such as consoles, DP's, Visualiser computers, IOPs and anything else that can receive and understand Hog-Net data. Art-Net is only ever outputted after Hog-Net. Generally with a Hog 3, the network would go Hog 3 >> Hog-Net >> DP >> DMX and/or Art-Net to fixtures. In a Hog network, communication between Console and DP will always be Hog-Net. It is only when the Hog-Net data (or packets, in the true Ethernet terms) gets to the DPs that Art-Net can be generated and outputted to fixtures. Maybe the quick diagram I drew will help...

So basically you will need to use a DP8000 for Art-Net. That can have 16 universe of any mixture of Art-Net or DMX, either by using the 8 5 pins ports and the Ethercon connection to output or with the addition of widgets/expander. I have however heard you can use a DP2000 in "Art-Net mode". But I have never done that, don’t know how it works or have any experience setting that up. I used the Full Boar direct Art-Net, which is almost the same as the DP8000.

    Hope this helps :)
