IPC to Ethernet system

I have been asked to drive a house lighting system with my IPC. The only input to the dimming system is an Ethernet port. What would be the best way to make this connection? Is it as easy as connection the cat 5 to the port on the back of the IPC? Or is there console preferences I need to set up in order to make the connection.

Thanks for your help.

  • It all depends on WHAT the ethernet port wants to see.

Pretty much the ONLY thing that comes out the ethernet port on the iPC is HogNet. So, unless they are using DP2000's or DP8000's somewhere else, the ethernet port isn't going to do anything for you.

More than likely, you will need some type of NODE for the house system. ETC, Strand, whatever...they all have varying protocols. You would take DMX OUT of the iPC into the node. The node then plugs into the ethernet port. Then, everything would have to be configured to talk.

Not a task for the faint of heart.
