All of the other consoles (Hog III, iPC, and RHFB) have MIDI built in and don't require an external midi controller.

If I am using a Hog 3 and want to run my laptop with Hog 3 PC and a dongle as a tracking backup, will this MIDI device work for that?

Yes, you can use the Hog III's built-in MID interface for this.

Hog3PC should work with any standard MIDI device that is recognized by windows.

Keep in mind that your laptop will also need a DMX output device like a widget or a DP, and you will need a DMX A/B switch to change between the console and the H3PC laptop.

All that MIDI will do for you is to keep both systems running the same cues, etc at the same time provided that they are both running the same show-file.
