Which Cable for HOG-Net? Cat6? Cat7?

Hey there,

are there any reasons to use a CAT5, CAT6 or CAT7 cable?

Lot of audio-systems require CAT7 cables
What about Artnet or HOG-Net

Any reasons not to use a CAT7 cable for these protocols?

Cheers

Marc
  • Cat-5e is the minimum.

You should have no problems with Cat-6 or Cat-7....they are essentially the same conductors with a tighter twist/braid allowing for reliably higher data tranfer rates.

    Hope this helps. :)
  • Hey Marty,

    thanks for those informations.
So I think we will go for Cat7, then the sound-guys might use the same cables.
    Rental-company with light & sound department ;-)
  • Are you looking for permanently installed in-wall cabling, or snakes and trunks?

CAT7 is very new, and finding a contractor that can install it properly and maintain CAT7 integrity is difficult.
  • Hey Eric

we have a supplier here in germany for snakes and cables with ethercon etc...
And because the sound-department would prefer CAT7 Snakes and cables(some digital console need CAT7) it would be nice to have just one type of cable that both departments can use.
  • What sound consoles require CAT7?
  • Have to ask the guys from sound... ;-)
They just asked me if we could deal with CAT7

I just remember that they had problems with Soundcraft Vi Consoles where CAT5e Cables didn´t work.
