The DP8000 runs on Linux, and is unlikely to catch a virus from the network.
The OS is pretty well defended, and it doesn't run many of the services that can be vulnerable (it doesn't run a web server, file server, etc.).
Of course, we always recommend running your Hog-Net network on a separate network that's not connected to the internet. But the DP isn't vulnerable to the kind of worms that spread via USB sticks and Windows' file sharing.
If you're worried, force a full software reload on the DP. this completely erases the internal flash memory and reloads the OS from scratch.
