The ML, Smartsoft, and loosing settings... (Dead in the water renamed)

Hey all,

Our church just got a couple of new MLs. In the main room we have 4 MAC 250k's and 4 MAC 250 Washes. Well in getting this thing up and running, we have found that many times Memory's do not return what was programmed and we are having the same issue with the Stacks now too. This seems to be mostly related to the K's and color. But right now I am in a jam. We have another service in about an hour and 3 instruments will not light. 2 are K's and 1 is a wash. I have gone as far as resetting the breakers (yes after a Lamp off and power down). I restarted the light board. Restarted the computer. This thing seem flighty at best. You are never really sure what you will be getting when you press play.

The reason I am now writing an SOS is because even though we have been saving everything, it seems to have lost it's memory and no longer has any pallets. Worse, is that I can not program any pallets as when I select lights (the ones that are lit) and press program, then focus, the lights do not start the orange blinkies as I have had all week. The only thing that will light is groups when that is selected.

What should I do? Any ideas?

Thanks all!!!

  • Sorry, on the pieces what will not lamp up,  1 was a K and 2 are washes.
  • Hi there -

The forums have no guaranteed response for show-critical problems like this one. I am very hopeful that you have called our Tech Support folks and have had this problem addressed. Any time anyone experiences a problem with any of our product that could jeopardize a show should call 800/688-4116 immediately and leave a message for technical support. Our support specialists will return your call within 15 minutes and help you as much as they can over the phone.

Given that, its hard to tell exactly what's going on with your system given the description. It's possible that you may have a console that needs repair. If you have not contacted tech support, please give them a call on Monday, preferably while you are near your console if possible. We will do what we can to sort out what's going on.

    Thanks much -

    Sarah

  • I tried to find any info after I posted. I did not  know about the show critical support. Thank you.  I will keep this info. I just thought someone might be online today and gave it a shot. Thanks though.

    A couple of questions...

I have been using the smartfade software via usb. Is there any history of corruption doing things this way?

Are there any known issues loosing color or focus position info when using fader memories with movers? I had made 4 looks this morning on faders. Several instruments did not come back as programmed. These had been tested several times without fail prior to the first service. When it was time for our pastor to talk...Wham we got yellow, orange and a green. I suppose it would be good for easter eggs, but... This was recorded with record all btw.  According to the tutorials on line we should be able to use the memories for this, but another person who also does lighting said that he has always  had problems with the ML and memories with movers.

  • Sorry to hear about your problems. I am sure we can assist you. I am not aware of any issues within the software that could cause these problems.

    Please contact us at

800-775-4382 and anyone in technical support will be happy to assist you. Additionally you can send us a copy of your show to service@etcconnect.com and we would be happy to review it.

  • Are you using one of the Beta versions of SmartSoft and SmartFade ML?
I believe there were problems with saving/loading in a couple of the older Beta versions which were solved prior to final release.

The version number is on the "System" tab in SmartSoft, and under "Setup > Software Version" on the SmartFade ML (shows on left-hand LCD)
    The released versions:

    • SmartSoft 1.0.0.9.0.0
    • SmartFade ML 2.0.0.9.x.x
  • I would like to get some information on how you are using the memories.

It sounds from your description as you have recorded some memories with parameter information and you play them back using the faders in MEMS mode. Correct?

Have you been using Color palette references when you recorded the memories? Or, do you store absolute color values in the memories?

If you are using Color palettes, is there any chance that you might have overwritten the Color palette information. In this case, this will change the appearance of all memories referring to the palette.
