Smartfade ML won't enter self test mode

I've recently begun work in a theatre that uses an older SmartFade ML, 2.0, I believe.  I have tried updating the firmware by using my laptop and attaching through USB using Windows 8.  I pressed Menu and Power as told to do in the manual to start the self test. When I press the Power button once, as directed in the manual, the console asks if I want to shut the board down.  I didn't know if anyone else was having this problem, or if there was a fix for this. I appreciate any help.  Thank You.

  • You've misread the manual/release note.

First of all, the console has to be off before you start, and you need to hold down [Menu/Tick] while turning it on. Keep holding the [Menu/Tick] button down until it tells you to let go.

Secondly, press [Menu/Tick] to step through the tests until you reach "Firmware Update [No]".

The power button will turn it off - it's how you cancel the self-tests if you get there by accident!
