Agreed with Ueli - this probably isn't an Electronic Theatre Controls (ETC) product as much as it is a configuration error in your /etc/ directory in your Ubuntu installation. This forum won't likely be a good resource for you - I'd recommend places like Stack Overflow, Ubuntu's forums, or even specific Google searches might point you in the right direction.
I don't do a lot of work in Linux, but if you are looking for a path forward, I'd suggest that you will probably want to open /etc/profile in a text editor (nano recommended) and see what's on line 29, and if that directory exists. It's possible a recent installation changed that line, or moved around a path that the profile was depending on.

It's also worth noting that the /etc/ directory on Ubuntu has nothing to do with ETC the company or any of our products. It is the home of configuration files on *nix based systems.
