Need Help With Emulator

I need help with a hardware issue that I am having with an old Emulator. Not a programming issue but a component issue and I am stuck. Any information or guidance will be appreciated.

Problem:

During self-test mode everything seems to be operating normally except for the 2 mirrors at the front (Galvos??). I checked the F-1/F-2 fuses as directed in the manual but still nothing. I swapped the galvos with 2 different ones and still nothing. They are magnetized and hold in position when powered on but just do not move like they are supposed to.

Any ideas on what to check or replace? I don't want to buy a bunch of parts and replace them if not needed since they arerather expensive.

Thanks for any information.

  • [quote=Puffyfish]Check the wires full length and their connections. Beep out each wire individually. Then the drivers, making sure they are all in and facing the right direction.
Do the mirrors reset to a neutral position upon reset?
If so on self test do they follow the program?
Is there any movement at all?
Does the unit respond to control?
Is the door safety working? They wont work with the door open.

I kinda need a better picture in my mind of whats not going on.

I will do my best..sorry I am a DJ trying to help with the repairs to this system..lol not real familiar with them but I am mechanically inclined so I wanted to try.

When first powered on the mirrors do move (kind of a shimmy back and forth). After that they do not move during the test mode at all, WHen I hooked up another set to the main board with that whole assembly outside the unit (if that makes sense) (wires were coming out the back...both top and bottom panels were closed) I could feel them become tight to the touch when the unit was running in test mode but they never moved and when powered off I again could move them back and forth with my fingers.
Using the controller I have two emulators hooked up and I can see that one is functioning with the preset buttons used and the one in question has change in color of light but really that is about it. The beam never changes from its position.

    Thanks for the help.
