Intellabeam Inconsistent Lamp Strike

I recently repaired a PCB on one of my Intellabeams. I had never seen the unit on, as I purchased it with a bad board. Now it works great, but the lamp doesn't strike consistently. The lamp will strike fine. Then I turn the unit off. Wait about 30-45 seconds, turn it back on, and there is an arc in the lamp, but it won't fully strike. Sometimes the arc wont even appear. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I switched out the lamp capacitor with a known working one and I have the same issue. Any ideas?

  • The MSR700/2 lamps are not designed to hot strike - it will not relight that quickly because, frankly, it's not supposed to . . . I'm lucky to get my I-Beams to restrike in 5 minutes or so - if it does it at all that fast, it's pure luck . . .

It requires a very specific ballast and lamp to get an arc lamp to restrike hot, and they just plain didn't exist when the I-Beam was built.
