Yes, that is correct. Currently there is no option to play media backwards. This has been an often requested feature and we currently have it logged in our system as Feature Request #5333.
This is something we plan to implement and we have over-come some large hurdles in regards to doing so with changes made in 1.4.0. I can't give a time frame, but it is coming.
