The stock objects that ship with the DL/Axon servers in general have no specific purpose other than be a surface on which to put a texture.
Object 43, the horizontal rod, is different in this respect. It was designed to be used with effect 71, vertical sinewave y-axis wobbulation.
Ever go to a laser show and enjoy that big, undulating sinewave over the crowds head? That is what object 43 combined with effect 71 is intended to provide.
With object 43 selected, along with some colorful media file, dial up effect 71 on the same layer. Set effect mod1 to 200, mod2 to 10 and mod3 to 125. This should yield a big, low frequency, slowly undulating sinewave, begging for some fog and an audience.
