3D Object creation

So what are the preferred program's for creating / converting 3D objects for use with Dl3's?

I can create the 3D surface i'm after easily and save it in a variety of CAD formats. But from there what is the easiest (cheapest) program to then further convert it to the .X Format?

    Yeah, getting the object i'm all over, And i forgot with using sketchup I can get it in all sorts of differenet formats, it's just getting that into the directX format.

    I downloaded Deep exploration and am going to see if the trial will give me the functionality I need. Normally I would just buy the software if it was going to use often enough, but seeing as this is the first time i've needed custom objects in the 6 years years i've been using DL2's/3's, I don't know how much use it would garner
