HID and Glass Gobos

Has anyone used a glass gobo in an HID S4 Leko? 1st did it work i.e not cracking the glass gobo**.  2nd how was the image quality and punch?

** At present we own Robert Juliet HMI profile and they can't not take a glass gobo.  The fixture gets way too hot and the glass gobo will crack/shatter.

Thanks

Kevin

  • Great question, Kevin.

As with so many lighting fixtures available within the live event world today, higher wattage often translates into higher heat to manage. The Apollo glass gobo works well within the confines of the ETC Source Four HID fixture, assuming proper bench focusing to spread out the heat energy that escapes the front of the lighting fixture.

As with all gobos, dichroic filters, and Apollo Crushed Dichroics- be sure all fingerprints are wiped away with a clean cloth and rubbing alcohol. Also ensure the shiny side of the black & white glass gobo is facing towards the lamp- allowing the highly reflective coating to reflect heat away from the substrate.

If you have additional questions you may contact me or another Apollo technician at (800)288-4626 or via email at expert@apollodesign.net

    Thank you for your inquiry!

  • Hi Apollo!  Say hello to Matt Plasterer for me if he still works there.  I used to work with him on the etching line back when I lived in Fort Wayne.  It was fun working there.

  • Wow- that would have been 2000 to 2002 I'm guessing, is that right Patrick?

Matt has been away for several years, but I recall you fellows swishing up some beautiful patterns back in the day. How the heck have you been?!

  • Yeah, end of 2000 I think.  I'll PM ya.  Sorry for the hijack :)

Ok, now how do I do that. . .

I guess this forum doesn't have PM.  Anyway, forgive me for forgetting, but were you the guy in the glass etch lab?  Had a lot going on at that time, but after 10 years, ya forget anything other than faces.  I only remembered Matt's name because I had to put it on job applications a lot.  Yeah, I left FW shortly after, and somehow ended up in this joint, lol, jk, ETC is great and I love Madison.  I hear you guys have been stealing our ESTA award for the past few years.  They think it's the chicklets, but I know better ;).
