HID and Glass Gobos

Great question, Kevin.

As with so many lighting fixtures available within the live event world today, higher wattage often translates into higher heat to manage. The Apollo glass gobo works well within the confines of the ETC Source Four HID fixture, assuming proper bench focusing to spread out the heat energy that escapes the front of the lighting fixture.

As with all gobos, dichroic filters, and Apollo Crushed Dichroics- be sure all fingerprints are wiped away with a clean cloth and rubbing alcohol. Also ensure the shiny side of the black & white glass gobo is facing towards the lamp- allowing the highly reflective coating to reflect heat away from the substrate.

Just wanted to add a few comments to the answer from Keith: Source Four HID is factory-set to maintain an even field and therefore born as a brilliat fixture for glass gobo projection. If tungsten fixtures are used with glass gobos it's very important to bench focus to flat as well.
