Fans on Lustr 3

Hi ETC and users

I've demo'd a new Lustr 3. 

the fan(s) are louder than the fan on the original CS4 units I've had for years (those are so nice and whisper quiet). the audio crew definitely noticed it (when sitting on stage).

during the testing, i forced the fan to full.  That seems to be much higher than the fan typically ran at when the light's at full. 

what is the typical fan response (50%, 80%, 30%) to the light being on at full at 20deg C ambient (75deg F)?

Is it possible to set the fan to 20% or 30% and let it just run there, rather than cycle up and down?

If I do set the fan speed to something lower than it would typically run at, does the LED engine self regulate and also run dimmer?

How much dimmer?

    Hello Andrew, 

    As LEDs get smaller and brighter, cooling becomes more of a challenge.  We have designed the Series 3 to utilize the built in thermistors and variable speed fan to monitor the temperature of the LEDs and run the fan accordingly.  We have programmed it to move up and down as needed, but to do so slowly as not to draw unwanted attention.

    Under normal operating conditions, the fan will usually run around 45-50% of its max speed with all emitters at full.  If you were to set it a lower level, such as the 20-30% you suggested above, it will likely run just fine for an extended period of time, especially if you are mixing to a color and not running everything at full, but will power budget if the LEDs get to hot.  How much the LEDs have to be dimmed is entirely related to the desired output level, ambient temperatures and air movement.  You would have to experiment in your facility to know for sure.
