Issue between Apollo Scrollers & VL 1000s

Hi all,

I am having issues with some equipment and am completely baffled as to what is happening... any suggestions or input would be helpful.

We have a Net2 distribution with EOS control. Coming out of multiple nodes through optosplitters I have 6 VL1000s and 14 Apollo Smart Color 7s. Whenever we bring the edge on some (not all) of the VLs to 100%, one or two of the scrollers will go through a reset. The addresses are not over lapping (scrollers are 1-14 and VLs are 100+). The fixtures do not even have to be on the same data line to cause this problem which would seem to rule out stray signal data bouncing around.

Does anyone have any insight on this??? We work around it by not setting edges to full, but I would like to understand what is going on in my system. Thanks

Odd, I didn't think the Apollo Smart Color 7s had a Reset command accessible from DMX, just the physical Reset button and power-on-reset.

The manual for them says that a voltage drop can cause them to reset, so that's one thing you could take a look at.

Voltage Drop has always been my experience when this happened. Have you checked to see if you have exceeded the #of heads and max feet per circuit on your PSU's? 200' max run on each circuit of the PSU.

I too have in the past had issues with voltage drop causing a reset but in this case the VLs and scrollers are running via separate power supplies which leads me to believe it is a data issue somewhere, but just can't figure where.

Some more info:

I switched the address on the scroller in question to a new address elsewhere in the same universe (6 to 406) and the problem still persisted. I then changed the address of the VL causing the issue to a different address in the same universe (250 to 450) and the problem went away. So I have a work around but any other ideas as to why??

Mark, it's strange that worked. As Richard said, the Apollo SC's don't have a DMX command for reseting. The new SmarColor Pro does though. you don't have those do you? Anyway, i would give Tech Support at Apollo a jingle to find out if they have a reason for this behavior. They love a good mystery over there anyway.

I know it sounds far out there but do these scrollers need termination or a loop back feed. I ran into that once, and it caused quite a headache.

Also have you checked the DMX output with a DMXter? You could have a bad cable or termination in the line.
